Mixing capacity and speeds

The Hamilton Beach 63398 is a 4-quart stand mixer with seven speed settings and a planetary mixing action. It includes a stainless steel bowl with handles, whisk, dough hook, flat beater and splash guard. All attachments are dishwasher safe. The tilt-back head allows easy access to the bowl and attachments.

Home bakers and occasional users

This mixer suits cooks who regularly prepare cake batter, frosting, cookie dough and bread dough at home. The slow first speed reduces splatter when adding dry ingredients. Buyers who need larger batch capacity or continuous heavy-duty daily use should consider a larger commercial-style machine.

4-quart bowl capacity

The 4-quart stainless steel bowl determines the maximum batch size for doughs and batters. Planetary mixing action covers the entire bowl for even results. The bowl and included attachments are dishwasher safe for straightforward cleanup. The unit measures 14.5 high, 14.4 wide and 10.9 deep.

Questions about this item

How do I attach the bowl and avoid the common mistake of not locking it?

Place the 4-quart stainless steel bowl on the base and turn it clockwise until it clicks into the locked position; the mixer will not run if the bowl is not fully seated.

Which parts will need replacement first and how do I clean them?

The whisk, dough hook, flat beater and splash guard are all dishwasher safe; inspect the beater edges and whisk wires periodically for wear and replace individual attachments as needed.

What limits continuous operation when mixing heavy dough?

The motor is designed for typical home batches; extended kneading of dense bread dough in the 4-quart bowl will cause the unit to heat up and trigger its internal thermal protection, pausing operation until it cools.
