Haywards

Haywards 40×40×28 mm 12 V 4-pin axial cooling fan

SKU CH-QW36-C0DR3

12 V axial fan delivers 19.4 CFM airflow at up to 18,000 RPM with PWM temperature control

  • 12 V operation with 7.0–13.4 V range
  • 4-pin PWM interface enables intelligent temperature control
  • Double ball bearing rated for 70000 hours
  • 18000 RPM delivers 19.4 CFM airflow
  • 40×40×28 mm frame fits standard chassis mounts

Compact 40 mm 12 V PWM fan

This 40×40×28 mm axial fan runs on 12 V and draws up to 1 A through a four-wire PWM connector. It is built for tight computer-case spaces where a small high-speed cooler is required. The double ball bearing is rated for 70000 hours of operation.

Practical limits of the 4-wire PWM interface

Speed is reported up to 18000 RPM with a tolerance of ±10 % across an operating voltage range of 7.0–13.4 V. The PWM signal allows automatic speed control but the fan still produces 54 dB of noise at full speed. Airflow reaches 19.4 CFM within these constraints.

18000 RPM top speed decides suitability

The 18000 RPM ceiling delivers strong airflow for its size yet creates noticeable noise that may be unsuitable for quiet builds. Buyers who need near-silent cooling should look elsewhere. The 12 W power draw and 4-pin connector must match the host header.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 40×40×28 mm model or a larger 80 mm frame for my build?

Choose the 40×40×28 mm unit when space is tight; the 80 mm frame listed in the title is a different size and will not fit the same mounting holes.

What does the 18000 RPM rating mean once the fan is installed in a case?

At full PWM duty the blades spin at up to 18000 RPM, moving 19.4 CFM through a 40 mm frame, but the trade-off is a measured 54 dB noise level.

How does the 4-pin PWM interface control speed in practice?

The fourth wire carries a PWM signal that lets the motherboard vary voltage between 7.0 V and 13.4 V, so the fan runs only as fast as the temperature demands.
