Offline clone function and speed
The dock supports hardware-based offline cloning from a source drive to a target drive without a host computer connected. The target drive capacity must be equal to or larger than the source. Clone speeds reach 70 to 100 MB/s depending on the installed drives. USB 3.0 transfers run at up to 5 Gbps while USB 2.0 tops out at 480 Mbps.
Power and compatibility needs
A 12 V 3 A external power adapter with EU plug is included for stable operation of two drives simultaneously. The dock works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Note that Windows XP limits recognized capacity to 2 TB while later versions support 3 TB and above. Two extra USB 2.0 hub ports are available for peripherals.

Questions about this item
What does the 5 Gbps USB 3.0 rate actually deliver when a SATA drive is docked?
The dock’s USB 3.0 link runs at up to 5 Gbps, but the SATA drive itself limits sustained throughput; expect real-world speeds closer to the drive’s own SATA ceiling.
Which USB standard caps the card-reader slots and the two extra hub ports?
The memory-card slots and the two expansion hub ports are wired to USB 2.0, so they top out at 480 Mbps regardless of the host port.
What drive sizes and power does the dock need to accept a bare 3.5-inch disk?
The cradle takes both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SATA or IDE drives and requires the included 12 V / 3 A power adapter to spin up a 3.5-inch unit.
