What this drive is

This is a 500GB 2.5-inch internal hard drive from HGST with a SATA interface. It spins at 7200 RPM and carries 32MB of cache. The unit is sold as used and tested functional, though it may show markings and up to 25 bad sectors. It arrives erased to DoD 5220.22 M standard without formatting or partitioning.

Who it suits and who it does not

It suits users replacing a 2.5-inch SATA drive in a laptop or compatible desktop who accept a used drive with cosmetic marks. Buyers who need a factory-new drive with zero bad sectors or a full manufacturer warranty should look elsewhere. Systems that require a different physical height or a non-SATA interface cannot use this drive.

The specification that decides fit

The drive uses a SATA connection and a 2.5-inch form factor. Verify that the host device has a matching SATA port and a drive bay that accepts this physical size before purchase.

Questions about this item

How does the 7200 RPM speed affect everyday performance?

The 7200 RPM spindle reduces average rotational latency, so operating system boots, application launches and large file copies complete more quickly than on slower-spinning drives.

What does the SATA III interface mean for real-world throughput?

The SATA III interface caps the maximum transfer rate at 6 Gb/s, so sustained reads and writes will not exceed that ceiling even if the drive mechanics could go faster.

Will this 2.5 inch drive fit my laptop bay or desktop tray?

The 2.5 inch form factor matches standard laptop bays and desktop drive trays; it uses the same SATA data and power connectors as other 2.5 inch drives.
