What It Is

The HiramWare KSS is a double-sided waterstone made from white corundum. It offers a 400 grit face for edge repair and a 1000 grit face for polishing. A non-slip rubber base keeps the stone stable during use. It requires only water, not oil.

How It Fits

The stone measures 7 by 2.3 by 1.1 inches and weighs 1.43 pounds, sitting securely on a benchtop without clamps. Water lubrication removes the need for oil containers and simplifies cleanup. The flat profile suits straight blades, scissors, chisels and axes alike.

Who It Suits

Home cooks and woodworkers who want a simple two-grit system for routine maintenance will find it practical. Buyers needing finer finishing grits, coarser stock removal or a larger surface for long blades should look at other options.

Questions about this item

How fast does the 400-grit side wear down during long sharpening sessions?

The white corundum material resists wear well, but exact wear rate depends on blade hardness and pressure applied.

Does the stone get slippery or hot when used continuously with water?

Water lubrication keeps the surface cool; the non-slip silicone base stays firmly planted on the countertop.

What blade length fits the 7-inch stone surface?

The 7-inch length accommodates knives up to about 7 inches; longer blades need multiple passes.
