HITACHI HTS545050A7E680 500GB 2.5" SATA HDD accessory

Product identity

The Hitachi HTS545050A7E680 is a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive with 500 GB capacity and a 5,400 RPM spindle speed. It uses an 8 MB cache and supports the Advanced Format sector structure. The drive is intended for laptop storage upgrades or replacements where a standard SATA interface is required.

Who it suits and who it does not

This drive suits users who need affordable bulk storage for documents, media or backups in a laptop that accepts 2.5-inch SATA drives. It is not suited for buyers who want solid-state speeds, higher spindle speeds for faster random access, or larger capacities beyond 500 GB.

Installation and common issues

Installation follows the usual 2.5-inch SATA process: secure the drive in the bay, connect the data and power cables, then initialise and format in the operating system. Common issues include the system not detecting the drive if the SATA cable is loose or the BIOS is not set to AHCI mode, and slower-than-expected performance if the partition is misaligned with the Advanced Format sectors.
