What this cable does

This three-metre USB 3.0 extension cable carries a Type-A male plug on one end and a Type-A female port on the other, extending the reach of any standard USB-A device by up to three metres while keeping the full 5 Gbps data rate of USB 3.0.

Who it suits and who it does not

It suits anyone who needs to move a keyboard, mouse, flash drive, printer, scanner, hard drive, hub or similar USB-A peripheral farther from a PC, laptop, tablet or MacBook without losing speed; it does not suit buyers who need a USB-C connection, a shorter or longer run, or a cable that also delivers high-wattage power.

Build integration

The nylon-braided jacket and reinforced strain relief survive repeated bending, while the aluminium-shell connectors and gold-plated contacts resist corrosion and maintain signal clarity; the cable is plug-and-play on Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS, requires no drivers, and frees up desk space by letting the host port stay put while the peripheral moves to a convenient spot.

Questions about this item

What host port do I need on my computer for this USB 3.0 Type-A male connector to plug into?

The cable requires a USB 3.0 Type-A female port on the host, and it is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 ports.

Will my existing USB 2.0 flash drive still reach full 480Mbps speed when connected through this 5Gbps extension cable?

Yes, the extension is backwards compatible with USB 2.0, so a USB 2.0 device will operate at its native 480Mbps rate.

How can I verify the cable is delivering the 5Gbps link after I plug it in?

Check the connection speed in your OS device manager or system profiler; it should report a 5Gbps SuperSpeed link for USB 3.0 devices.
