Product Purpose

The Hitron CGN3 is a DOCSIS 3.0 gateway modem that combines a cable modem, a four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch and a Wi-Fi 3 access point in one unit. It delivers downstream speeds up to 1.2 Gbps through 32 bonded channels and supports IPv4 and IPv6 routing with firewall functions.

Ideal Users and Limits

This gateway suits subscribers whose cable provider requires DOCSIS 3.0 hardware and who want wired and wireless connectivity without a separate router. It is not for customers on DOCSIS 3.1-only networks or for installations that need more than four wired ports.

Deciding Specification

The DOCSIS 3.0 certification with 32 downstream channels determines whether the CGN3 will work on a given cable network. If the service provider mandates DOCSIS 3.1 or a different channel count, this modem will not activate.

Questions about this item

How much power does the Hitron CGN3 draw when it runs all day?

The unit is a DOCSIS 3.0 gateway with a 32×8 channel bond and a four-port Gigabit switch, so its steady-state draw stays modest for a always-on network device.

What must I already have for the CGN3 to work?

You need an active cable line with an F-type 75 ohm outlet and a subscription that supports DOCSIS 3.0 service.

Will my older 802.11n laptop connect to the CGN3 Wi-Fi?

Yes, the dual-band 3×3 MIMO access point supports 802.11n alongside 802.11ac, so legacy clients associate without extra setup.
