Kids & Beginner Orienteering Compass

The HKDiRedy compass is a lightweight magnetic navigation tool built for children and newcomers to outdoor activities. Its clear dial and map scale support basic orienteering during camping, hiking, backpacking and scouting trips. The compact green acrylic body fits easily in a pocket or pack for quick access on the trail.

Magnetic Needle Limits in Difficult Terrain

The compass relies on a free-floating magnetic needle that locks onto Earth's field for direction. Accuracy drops near large metal objects, power lines or mineral deposits that distort the local field. The 0.1 in thin baseplate offers no built-in declination adjustment, so users must apply local variation manually when precision matters.

Simple Pocket Carry and Common Pitfalls

No installation is required; the compass is ready to use straight from the package. The 2.7 in width and 4.33 in length make it easy to stow, yet the slim profile can slip unnoticed from shallow pockets. Bubbles may form in the liquid capsule over time, and dropping the unit on hard surfaces can crack the acrylic housing or misalign the needle.

Questions about this item

Is the 4.33 x 2.48 in size the only option available?

Yes, this model comes in a single size of 4.33 in x 2.48 in x 0.1 in and is offered in green only.

How does the 0.1 in thickness affect durability in a backpack?

The slim 0.1 in profile keeps the compass flat against a map or pocket lining, and the acrylic construction resists cracking when pressed against other gear.

What map scales does the baseplate support for orienteering?

The transparent baseplate includes printed map scales so you can measure distance and plot bearings directly on standard topographic maps.
