Product identity

The NVENT HOFFMAN A16R166HCR is a carbon-steel electrical enclosure measuring 16 inches high and 16 inches wide with a 6-inch depth. It is built for installers who need a wall-mounted box to protect wiring and components in indoor or sheltered outdoor locations. The hinged cover and captive screws allow quick access during maintenance or inspection.

Practical limits of the NEMA 3R rating

The enclosure meets NEMA Type 3R and IP32 standards, so it resists falling rain, sleet and external ice formation but is not rated for hose-directed water or dust ingress. The galvanized gray finish adds corrosion resistance for exposed mounting. Installers must provide their own gaskets or seals if a higher IP rating is required for the application.

The specification that decides fit

The 14/16 gauge steel construction and included interior panel 32FT28 determine whether the box can support the weight and mounting pattern of your gear. The hasp and staple accept a padlock for basic security, while collar studs simplify panel installation. Buyers who need a deeper enclosure or a different panel layout should select another model.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 16 in height model or a different size?

The enclosure measures 16 in high, 16 in wide and 6 in deep; choose this size when the interior panel 32FT28 and the 14/16 ga carbon steel walls match your mounting space.

What does the NEMA 3R rating mean once the box is mounted on a wall?

NEMA 3R and IP32 indicate protection against falling rain, sleet and external ice formation while allowing drainage; the hasp and staple accept a padlock for secure access.

Which standards cap the enclosure’s performance in practice?

It is cUL listed to UL 50 and 50E and CSA C22.2 No 94, and meets IEC 60529, so the galvanized steel body and captive screws conform to those listed safety and ingress standards.
