HOFFMAN ASG4X4X4 4-in Enclosure

This HOFFMAN ASG4X4X4 is a carbon-steel electrical enclosure measuring 4 in height, width and depth. It carries a NEMA Type 1 rating and IP30 protection for indoor wireway and junction-box duties. The screw-on solid cover uses captive screws for secure closure. It is suited for installers needing a compact, wall-mountable box for basic circuit protection.

Pre-installation checks

Verify that the mounting surface can accept the enclosure's mounting holes and that the 4-in depth fits your available wall cavity. Confirm the application only requires NEMA Type 1 or IP30 ingress protection, as this unit is not rated for wet or dusty environments. Ensure the 12/14/16 ga steel gauge meets local code requirements for the intended circuit. No specific tools beyond standard screwdrivers are mentioned for the captive-screw cover.

Thermals noise and power

As a passive metal enclosure, the ASG4X4X4 generates no noise and draws no power during normal operation. The galvanized carbon-steel body dissipates heat from enclosed components through natural convection across its 4-in surfaces. Internal temperature rise depends entirely on the installed devices and ventilation provisions; the enclosure itself adds no active cooling. Its solid cover and screw-latch closure maintain the rated IP30 seal without fan or filter maintenance.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box and what must be purchased separately?

The enclosure ships as a single 4 in by 4 in by 4 in carbon-steel unit with a solid screw-on cover, captive screws, and mounting holes; wire, connectors, and mounting hardware are not included.

Which version or capacity should I choose for my application?

The ASG4X4X4 is offered in one size — 4 in height, width, and depth — with a galvanized gray finish and 12/14/16 ga construction; select it when those exact dimensions and NEMA Type 1 rating match the installation requirements.

What do the IP30 and NEMA Type 1 ratings mean once the box is installed?

IP30 and NEMA Type 1 indicate protection against solid objects and incidental contact in indoor, dry locations; the enclosure is cUL listed per CSA C22.2 No 40 and UL 50/50E for that environment.
