Electrical enclosure for indoor wiring

The Hoffman ASG8X8X4 is a carbon-steel enclosure rated NEMA Type 1 and IP30 for indoor use. It provides a protected space for wire splices, junction points or small control components in dry locations. The galvanized gray finish resists corrosion in typical commercial or light-industrial environments. Installers mount it directly to walls using the integrated mounting holes.

NEMA 1 and IP30 limits

The enclosure meets UL 50, UL 50E and IEC 60529 standards for basic protection against contact with live parts and falling dirt. It is not rated for water ingress, oil, dust or outdoor exposure, so it must not be used where splashing, wash-down or heavy particulate matter occur. The screw-on solid cover with screw-latch closure secures the interior but does not form a gasketed seal. Conduit or cable entries must be field-cut in the 12/14/16 gauge walls.

8×8×4 inch capacity and headroom

The internal volume accommodates multiple conductor splices, terminal blocks or a compact relay assembly in an 8-inch by 8-inch by 4-inch cavity. The solid cover preserves the full depth for component height, while the captive screws speed cover removal during maintenance. Capacity runs out when conduit fill limits, bending-radius requirements or device-count rules exceed the available cubic inches, requiring a larger enclosure or a wireway extension.

Questions about this item

Which enclosure size matches an 8-inch by 8-inch footprint with a 4-inch depth?

The ASG8X8X4 model provides exactly an 8 in height, 8 in width and 4 in depth, giving a square footprint with a shallow profile for wall mounting.

What protection does the NEMA Type 1 and IP30 rating give once the box is installed?

NEMA Type 1 and IP30 mean the enclosure shields internal wiring from accidental contact and falling debris indoors, but it is not sealed against water or dust ingress.

How do the captive screws and 12/14/16 gauge steel affect the closure in daily use?

Captive screws stay attached to the cover so they cannot be lost, and the 12/14/16 ga carbon steel provides rigid screw threads that resist stripping during repeated opening.
