Handheld laser barcode scanner reads 1D and GS1 DataBar codes at 72 scan lines per second with automatic trigger for handheld or fixed presentation use
The Honeywell Voyager 9540 is a corded handheld barcode scanner built around a single-line laser engine. It reads all standard 1D symbologies plus GS1 DataBar codes at up to 72 scan lines per second. The unit ships without a cable, so a compatible interface cable must be sourced separately. Automatic infrared triggering lets the device switch between hand-held and fixed presentation modes when placed in an optional stand.
This scanner fits point-of-sale lanes, inventory aisles and library check-out stations that only need linear bar code capture. CodeGate technology adds a push-button transmit function for menu-style scanning where the operator targets a specific code. Buyers who must capture QR codes, Data Matrix or other 2D symbologies should look at an area-imaging model instead. The scanner-only packaging also means anyone without a spare cable will need to order one before deployment.
The scanner communicates through a Laser Emulation interface and draws 165 mA at 5 VDC during operation, dropping to 120 mA in standby. A host port capable of supplying 5 VDC ±0.25 V at those currents is the single specification that decides whether this is the right part. The 650-nanometer laser meets a 5-foot drop rating and weighs 0.32 lb for all-day handheld use.

The unit measures 7.8 by 3.1 by 2.2 inches and weighs 0.32 lb; the optional stand uses automatic in-stand detection to switch to presentation mode when the scanner is seated.
Connect a Laser Emulation compatible cable to the host, then plug it into the scanner; the step often missed is ordering the correct cable separately because this model ships as scanner only.
Keep the scan window clean for the 650 nm laser; the unit is rated to survive 5-foot drops, but the cable is a separate wear item that may need replacement over time.
