The NTAG215 chip provides 504 bytes of user memory with password-protected authentication. Cards are rewritable until locked as read-only, though Amiibo data can be written only once.

Passive operation

These tags draw no power of their own and emit no noise or heat during use. They communicate only when energised by an NFC-enabled phone or reader, so there is no power supply, no consumption figure and no thermal load to manage. The PVC construction is waterproof and abrasion-resistant, but the cards are not designed for use on metal surfaces or in strong magnetic fields.
