A 3U 19-inch rackmount chassis holds sixteen 3.5-inch hot-swappable SATA or SAS drives with a 12Gb/s SAS backplane and three 12038 ball-bearing fans
The HOTCFWQ 3U server chassis fits a standard 19-inch rack and holds sixteen hot-swappable 3.5-inch drives. It accepts SATA II, SATA III, SAS II and SAS III drives running at 6 Gb/s. The enclosure is built from 1.0 mm SGCC zinc-coated steel and measures 437.5 mm wide by 560 mm deep by 132 mm high. Three 12038 ball-bearing fans provide standard cooling.
The chassis is available with either a 6 Gb/s or 12 Gb/s MINI SAS backplane, or a 6 Gb/s or 12 Gb/s expander backplane, each including a temperature-control chipset. Moving to a 12 Gb/s backplane is worthwhile when the host controller and drives support SAS III speeds, allowing the full bandwidth of modern SAS SSDs or HDDs to be used. A 6 Gb/s backplane limits those drives to half their potential throughput.
All sixteen drive bays are electrically limited to 6 Gb/s per port regardless of the backplane option chosen. Drives capable of 12 Gb/s will operate but cannot exceed the 6 Gb/s ceiling on the bay side. The board supports a maximum motherboard size of 12 by 10.5 inches and provides seven full-height PCI or PCIe expansion slots. Front-panel connectivity includes two USB 2.0 ports, with USB 3.0 offered as an option.

The unit fits a standard 19-inch rack and occupies 560 mm of depth with a 132 mm (3U) height allowance.
Press the tray latch to eject each 3.5-inch bay; the step often missed is seating the tray fully until the latch clicks so the SAS/SATA connector engages.
Replace fans when bearing noise increases or airflow drops, typically after several years of continuous operation.
