HOYA Filter

HOYA Filter 72mm Creative Diffuser No1 Soft-Focus Glass Filter

SKU CH-54BS-WMDYE

A 72 mm glass filter that softens highlights and skin tones for a subtle, low-contrast look in portraits and landscapes

  • Softens skin tones and reduces blemishes for flattering portraits
  • Lowers overall contrast to create a gentle, natural mood
  • Tames harsh blown-out highlights in bright light sources
  • Unique irregular surface pattern diffuses light without losing image detail
  • 72 mm thread fits compatible lenses for photography and video

Portrait softening tool

The 72mm Creative Diffuser No1 adds a subtle unsharpness that smooths skin tones and reduces the appearance of wrinkles or blemishes in portrait work. It also tames harsh blown-out highlights from bright light sources for a more natural look.

Hydrogen fluoride surface treatment

An irregular pattern is sprayed onto the glass using hydrogen fluoride and a special masking plate. This physical texture creates the diffusion effect directly on the filter surface rather than relying on optical coatings alone.

Fixed 72mm thread constraint

The filter fits only lenses with a 72mm front thread, so it cannot be used on smaller or larger diameters without separate step-up or step-down rings. The effect strength is built into the glass and cannot be adjusted or turned off while shooting.

Questions about this item

Will the 72mm filter thread wear out or need replacement over time?

The 72mm aluminium thread is built to last through normal mounting and removal; no scheduled replacement is required.

What optical limit appears first when using the Diffuser No1 for extended shoots?

The fixed diffusion strength of the No1 grade is the creative ceiling — you cannot dial the effect up or down without swapping filters.

Does the glass coating add heat or power draw during all-day video recording?

The passive glass filter adds no heat, draws no power and operates silently in any lighting condition.
