A 2 TB 2.5-inch hard drive spinning at 7200 RPM with SATA and SAS interfaces and hot-swap support
This HP 2TB MidLine hard drive is built for servers and storage arrays that need high-capacity 2.5-inch drives. It uses a 7200 RPM spindle and a SATA 6G/s or SAS interface to deliver reliable bulk storage. The SmartDrive carrier supports hot-swap bays in compatible HP Gen9 systems. It suits IT teams expanding nearline capacity without moving to solid-state media.
Under continuous operation the 7200 RPM spindle maintains steady sequential transfer rates for backup, archiving and streaming tasks. The 512e sector format helps compatibility with legacy and modern controllers alike. SAS and SATA dual-interface support lets the drive negotiate the highest link speed the backplane provides. Firmware tuned for MidLine duty cycles keeps latency predictable during long write sequences.
The included SmartDrive carrier slides directly into Gen9 hot-swap bays without screws or caddies, so drives can be replaced while the system runs. Installers must verify the backplane supports both SAS and SATA signalling; some older enclosures only wire one protocol. The 2.5-inch form factor fits dense drive cages but will not mount in 3.5-inch trays without an adapter. Buyers who need 3.5-inch bay compatibility or non-hot-swap mounting should look elsewhere.

The HP G9 Midline drive spins at 7200 RPM and uses a SATA or SAS interface; power draw and thermal output depend on the host system and workload.
A 2.5-inch bay with a SATA III or SAS backplane and a SmartDrive carrier latch is required for the hot-swap HP G9 Midline drive.
The 512e emulation lets the drive present 512-byte logical sectors to legacy controllers while using 4 KB physical sectors internally.
