HP 600GB SAS 15K SFF Hard Drive

This HP 3PAR StoreServ M6710 drive provides 600GB of storage in a 2.5in form factor. It uses a SAS interface running at 6Gb/s with a 15000 rpm spindle speed. The unit includes FIPS encryption for data security and is designed for internal installation in supported storage systems.

Suits HP 3PAR StoreServ M6710 arrays needing

This drive fits administrators expanding or repairing an HP 3PAR StoreServ M6710 environment that requires FIPS-validated encryption. It is not suitable for servers or workstations that lack SAS backplanes, nor for systems needing larger capacities or different form factors.

Verify SAS backplane and tray compatibility before

Confirm the target array accepts 2.5in SFF drives with a 6Gb/s SAS connection and that the drive carrier matches the M6710 specification. Ensure the controller firmware supports FIPS encrypted media and that the operating environment meets the drive's physical dimensions.

Questions about this item

What SAS controller or backplane is required for the 6Gb/s SAS interface on this 2.5in drive?

The drive uses a 6Gb/s SAS interface and fits a 2.5in bay, so it needs a SAS controller or backplane that supports 6Gb/s SAS signalling and the small form factor slot.

Will the 15000 rpm spindle speed cause compatibility issues with older 3Gb/s SAS enclosures?

The drive negotiates down to 3Gb/s SAS when connected to a slower backplane, but full 6Gb/s performance requires a 6Gb/s-capable enclosure or HBA.

How can I verify the FIPS encryption is active after installing the drive in an M6710 array?

Use the 3PAR management console to check the drive’s encryption status; it will report FIPS mode enabled when the self-encrypting drive is correctly initialised.
