Smart Array P812 SAS controller for PCIe x8

The HP 613270-001 Smart Array P812 is a PCIe x8 SAS controller module designed for servers and workstations that need additional SAS connectivity. It suits administrators expanding internal or external storage arrays using SAS drives. This card only provides the controller function without cables or brackets. Buyers who need onboard RAID cache or battery-backed write cache should verify support separately.

Passive cooling with standard slot airflow

The module relies on passive cooling and standard chassis airflow, so it adds no fan noise to the system. Power draw is modest for a PCIe x8 card and is supplied entirely through the slot. Ensure the host server provides adequate slot airflow for continuous operation. The physical dimensions are compact at 1 by 1 by 1 units and the unit weighs 5.1 units.

Questions about this item

How do I install the HP Smart Array P812 controller into a PCIe x8 slot?

Align the card edge connector with the PCIe x8 slot on the motherboard and press firmly until the bracket secures to the chassis. The step often missed is connecting the internal SAS cables to the controller ports before closing the case.

What maintenance will the HP 613270-001 controller need over time?

The controller has no user-serviceable parts. Maintenance is limited to keeping server air intakes clear so the card stays cool, and applying any firmware updates HP releases for the P812 SAS controller.
