1 TB SATA hard drive spins at 7,200 rpm in a 2.5-inch form factor with an attached hot-swap tray for Gen8/9 servers
This 1 TB hard drive uses a SATA interface and spins at 7,200 rpm in a 2.5 inch low-profile form factor. It is built for HP Generation 8 and 9 servers and ships with a hot-swap tray attached. The drive is new and intended for internal server or storage-array installations.
The SATA connection tops out at 6 Gbit/s, so sustained throughput cannot exceed that ceiling regardless of the drive’s rotational speed. Random I/O performance is bound by the 7,200 rpm spindle and the mechanical latency inherent to spinning media. The interface is backward compatible with slower SATA links, but the 6 Gbit/s maximum remains the hard boundary.
One terabyte provides room for operating-system images, application bins and moderate data sets on a single spindle. Heavy write workloads or large sequential archives will saturate the mechanical throughput before the capacity fills. Workloads demanding higher IOPS or lower latency than a 7,200 rpm drive can deliver need a different storage tier.

The 7,200 rpm spindle delivers typical nearline throughput for bulk data, backups and sequential workloads in G8 or G9 servers.
The SATA 6 Gb/s link limits maximum transfer rate to 6 Gb/s; actual sustained speeds depend on the drive’s mechanical performance.
