HP Gen8 500 GB SATA drive

This 500 GB hard drive spins at 7.2 K rpm and connects through a 6 Gb/s SATA interface. It is built for HP Gen8 server environments that require a hot-pluggable mechanical drive.

Hot-plug tray and form-factor fit

The unit ships with a tray that supports both 2.5-inch small form factor and 3.5-inch large form factor bays. This lets administrators insert or remove the drive without powering down the chassis.

Tray included for immediate installation

The bundled tray provides the mechanical interface the server expects, so the drive can be slotted straight into a compatible bay. No separate caddy or adapter purchase is required.

Questions about this item

Does the 7.2K RPM spindle become the throughput limit first under sustained use?

The 7.2K RPM spindle sets the sequential transfer ceiling, so sustained reads and writes will hit that mechanical limit before the 6 Gbit SATA link saturates.

How much heat and noise does the 2.5-inch 500GB drive add when running all day in a Gen8 server bay?

The small form factor 7.2K RPM drive produces modest heat and low acoustic output typical for nearline SATA drives in a Gen8 hot-plug tray.

Which HP Gen8 server tray or caddy must I already own to hot-plug this 656107-001 drive?

The drive ships with a Gen8 hot-plug tray, so no separate caddy is required for compatible HP Gen8 servers.
