HP 693569-008 900GB SAS Hard Drive

The HP 693569-008 is a new 900GB internal hard drive with a 2.5 inch form factor. It uses a SAS 6Gb/s interface and spins at 10000 RPM. The drive is supplied as a bare unit with hot-swap capability.

Suits SAS servers needing 10K spindle speed

This drive fits servers and storage arrays that accept 2.5 inch SAS drives and require 10000 RPM performance. Systems lacking SAS backplanes or controllers cannot use this drive. Buyers needing larger capacity or solid-state latency should consider a different drive class.

SAS 6Gb/s interface defines compatibility

The single specification that decides fit is the SAS 6Gb/s interface. The host must provide a matching SAS port and support 2.5 inch hot-swap trays for this drive to function.

Questions about this item

What server or storage enclosure do I need to mount the 2.5-inch SAS 6Gb/s drive with part number 693569-008?

It fits any 2.5-inch hot-swap bay that accepts a SAS 6Gb/s connection and provides the correct backplane power and signal pins.

Will the 10000 RPM 900GB SAS drive work on an older 3Gb/s SAS controller?

Yes, the 6Gb/s SAS interface negotiates down to 3Gb/s automatically, so the drive will operate at the slower link speed.

How can I verify the drive is healthy and running at 10000 RPM after installation?

Check the SMART attributes and rotational-speed field in your RAID controller BIOS or OS disk utility; they should report 10000 RPM and no reallocated-sector warnings.
