The HP Aruba 3810M is a rack-mountable Layer 3 switch that provides 48 ports for enterprise, SMB and branch office networks. It includes 16 fixed SFP+ ports operating at 1000 or 10000 Mbps and two open module slots for additional connectivity. The switch supports MACsec on up to 16 ports for link-level encryption.

SFP+ uplink constraints and module flexibility

The 16 SFP+ ports are fixed at 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps speeds with no multi-gigabit intermediate rates on those interfaces. Two open module slots accept optional Aruba 3810M modules to add copper, SFP or 40 GbE QSFP+ uplinks, but the slots are not populated by default. MACsec encryption is limited to the first 16 ports.

Replaces older fixed-configuration core switches

This unit upgrades networks that rely on older fixed-configuration switches lacking modular uplinks or line-rate 40 GbE backhaul capacity. The jump is worthwhile when you need resilient stacking, low-latency Layer 3 routing and the ability to add 40 GbE uplinks later without replacing the chassis. It is not for buyers who need PoE-powered access ports on every interface.
