12-Port Aruba CX 4100i Switch

The Aruba CX 4100i is a manageable Layer 3 Ethernet switch with twelve RJ-45 ports and two SFP+ uplink slots. It supports twisted-pair and optical-fiber media across 10/100/1000Base-T and 10GBase-X technologies. The unit is modular and accepts up to two redundant power supplies.

Suits PoE++ access deployments.

This switch fits networks that need to power wireless access points, cameras or VoIP handsets through four PoE++ and eight PoE+ copper ports. Buyers who do not require Power over Ethernet or who need higher port density should look at other models.

Deciding spec: four PoE++

The combination of four high-power and eight standard PoE+ RJ-45 interfaces determines whether the switch matches the endpoint power budget. If the installation demands more high-power ports or no PoE at all, a different chassis is required.

Questions about this item

How much heat does the 12-port CX 4100i produce when running all day with PoE++ devices attached?

The switch supports redundant power supplies and IEEE 802.3bt PoE++ on four ports, so sustained heat output scales with the total PoE load you apply.

What SFP+ transceivers must I already own to use the two 10 Gigabit uplinks on the CX 4100i?

The two expansion slots accept standard SFP+ modules for 10GBase-X fibre or direct-attach cables; choose modules that match your link distance and fibre type.

Will my older 10/100Base-T access points negotiate correctly on the 8 PoE+ ports of this switch?

Yes, the eight PoE+ ports run 10/100/1000Base-T and support IEEE 802.3af/at, so legacy 10/100 devices will auto-negotiate and receive power.
