Product Identity

The HP Aruba J4858D is a 1000BASE-SX SFP transceiver designed for network administrators who need reliable 1 Gbps fibre connectivity. It plugs directly into compatible switches or routers to extend a network over multimode fibre.

Reach and Capacity

Operating at an 850 nm wavelength, the module supports links up to 550 metres on multimode fibre. It handles standard Gigabit Ethernet traffic but does not reach the distances required for single-mode or long-haul deployments.

Build Integration

The transceiver uses an LC duplex connector and fits any SFP slot that accepts 1000BASE-SX optics. It adds fibre uplinks without consuming copper ports and requires no additional power supply beyond the host device.

Questions about this item

Will the J4858D 1000BASE-SX module link with my older gigabit switches that use multimode fibre?

Yes, the 1000BASE-SX standard and 850 nm wavelength are compatible with legacy gigabit ports that accept multimode fibre.

How can I verify the transceiver is operating correctly once installed?

Check the switch port LEDs for a solid link light and confirm the interface reports a 1000 Mb/s connection with no errors.

Does the package include fibre patch cords or only the transceiver itself?

Only the SFP transceiver is supplied; LC duplex multimode patch cables must be purchased separately.
