HP 300 GB SAS 10K Server HDD

This HP EG0300FCSPH is a 300 GB internal server hard drive with a 2.5 in form factor and a SAS interface. It spins at 10000 RPM and includes hot plug and hot swap support for compatible ProLiant systems. The Smart Carrier design fits Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 servers. It is sold new and intended for enterprise storage arrays.

Suited for ProLiant storage upgrades

Administrators expanding or replacing drives in supported HP ProLiant servers will find the correct carrier and SAS connectivity here. The 6 Gbps dual-port interface matches existing backplane specifications. Builders working on desktop PCs, laptops or non-SAS platforms cannot use this drive because it requires a server backplane and SAS controller.

SAS 6 Gbps dual-port interface

The drive communicates over a 6 Gbps SAS link with dual ports for path redundancy. This interface determines whether the unit will operate in the target server; systems without SAS backplane support cannot accept it. Verify the server generation and backplane type before purchase.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 300 GB 10K SAS drive or a larger capacity model for my ProLiant server?

The 300 GB capacity suits OS and application volumes where fast 10 000 RPM response matters more than raw space; choose a higher-capacity SAS drive only if you need more storage per bay.

What does the 10 000 RPM spindle speed deliver inside a Gen8, Gen9 or Gen10 ProLiant?

It provides low-latency random I/O for transactional workloads and database logs, with sustained throughput limited by the SAS 6 Gbps link rather than the spindle.

How does the SAS 6 Gbps interface cap real-world transfer rates in these servers?

The 6 Gbps SAS link sets a theoretical ceiling of about 600 MB/s; actual throughput depends on the controller, queue depth and workload pattern.
