HP 1.2 TB SAS hard drive

The HP EG1200FDNJT is a 1.2 TB hard drive with a 2.5 in form factor, 10000 RPM spindle speed and a SAS interface running at 6 GB/s. It includes a 64 MB cache and supports hot-swap installation in a single drive bay. This plug-in module is designed for HP storage systems that accept 2.5 in SAS drives.

Server and array administrators needing 10k SAS

IT teams expanding or repairing HP SAS arrays that require a 10000 RPM mechanical drive will find this module a direct fit. Environments that need solid-state latency, higher single-drive capacities, or host interfaces other than SAS should consider different drive types. The hot-swap capability suits systems where drives must be replaced without downtime.

SAS 6 GB/s interface decides compatibility

The drive communicates over a SAS connection at 6 GB/s, so the host controller, backplane or enclosure must provide a matching SAS port. If the target system uses a different interface or a slower SAS link, this module will not operate as intended. Verify the SAS interface requirement before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does the HP EG1200FDNJT module ship with mounting hardware or cables, or must they be purchased separately?

The module is a hot-swap 2.5in SAS HDD assembly that slides into a compatible drive bay; no mounting screws, brackets or cables are included in the box.

The listing shows MPN 718162-B21 and a related number 718292-001 — which one should I order for a 1.2TB 10000RPM drive?

Both numbers refer to the same 1.2TB 10000RPM SAS HDD; 718162-B21 is the primary part number for the plug-in module.

What does the 6GB/Sec transfer rate mean for actual read and write speeds once the drive is installed in a server?

The 6GB/Sec SAS link sets the interface ceiling; sustained throughput will be limited by the 10000RPM mechanical speed and 64MB cache.
