HP EliteBook 840 G2 14 2-in-1

The HP EliteBook 840 G2 is a 14 2-in-1 laptop built for professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 Pro device for everyday office tasks. It combines a 14.0 inch display with an Intel Core i5-5300U processor running at 2.30 GHz, 16GB of memory and a 500GB SSD. The black chassis weighs 3.9 lb and measures 0.8 inches thin for easy transport.

Ports and expansion for a mobile workspace

Four USB Type-A 3.0 ports, a DisplayPort, an audio jack, an SD card reader and a smart card reader provide the connections needed for peripherals, external monitors and secure authentication. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 5500 drives the internal screen and external displays without a discrete GPU. The included AC power adapter keeps the system running at a desk or on the move.

16GB memory and 500GB SSD headroom

Sixteen gigabytes of RAM allows smooth multitasking across browser tabs, office suites and video calls. The 500GB solid-state drive offers fast boot times and enough space for documents, local databases and offline files. Users working with large media libraries or virtual machines will find the storage capacity limiting and should plan for external or cloud storage.

Questions about this item

How long can the Intel Core i5-5300U at 2.30 GHz run before thermal throttling limits performance?

The 5th Gen Intel Core i5-5300U processor with Intel HD Graphics 5500 is designed for sustained everyday workloads; actual thermal limits depend on the chassis cooling and ambient temperature.

What are the fan noise and surface temperatures like when the 14" EliteBook runs all day on AC power?

With a slim profile and 3.9 lb weight, the system uses active cooling; fan speed and skin temperatures will rise under continuous load but remain within normal business-notebook ranges.

Does the laptop include a 3.0 USB Type-A charger or do I need my own USB-C PD adapter?

The box contains the HP EliteBook 840 G2 and its dedicated AC power adapter; the four USB 3.0 Type-A ports are for peripherals, not for charging the laptop.
