HP EliteBook 840 G3 — who it serves

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch FHD laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor with a turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit comes pre-installed. It suits professionals who need a compact business machine for office applications and web-based workflows.

Memory upgrade and storage limits

The chassis provides two memory slots supporting up to 32 GB total, so the factory 8GB can be expanded with standard DDR3 modules. The 500GB NVMe drive occupies the single M.2 slot; there is no 2.5 inch bay for an additional hard drive. Buyers who want more storage must replace the existing SSD rather than add a second drive.

Display and graphics baseline

The non-touch 14.0 inch panel delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution driven by Intel HD Graphics 520 integrated graphics. This combination handles typical productivity tasks and video playback at native resolution. Buyers who need discrete graphics performance for 3D rendering or modern gaming titles should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How can I confirm the Intel Core i7-6600U is running at its 3.40 GHz turbo speed after setup?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, and watch the CPU clock speed rise toward 3.40 GHz when a heavy single-thread load is applied.

Which items are included and which must be purchased separately for the EliteBook 840 G3?

The laptop, its power adapter and a pre-installed Windows 10 Pro 64-bit licence are supplied; extra DDR3 SO-DIMMs up to 32 GB total or a second M.2 NVMe drive are not included.

Should I choose the 500 GB NVMe version or look for a larger capacity?

The 500 GB M.2 NVMe drive is the only capacity offered for this configuration; if you need more space you would have to add a second M.2 NVMe SSD yourself.
