HP EliteBook 840 G3 14" FHD laptop

This 14.0 inch business laptop runs on an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor at 2.50 GHz with turbo up to 3.10 GHz. It ships with 8GB DDR3 memory and a 240GB SSD. The unit is sold new without an operating system so the buyer installs their preferred OS.

No operating system included

The machine arrives with no operating system installed. This means the purchaser must supply and load Windows, Linux or another OS before the laptop is ready for daily work. The absence of a pre-installed OS keeps the initial setup flexible for IT departments or personal preference.

240GB SATA SSD storage

A new 240GB 2.5 inch SATA solid-state drive provides the primary storage. This capacity suits light workloads and cloud-centric users but may feel tight for large local media libraries or multiple virtual machines. Buyers who need more onboard space should plan for a larger drive.

Questions about this item

Can the 8GB DDR3 memory be upgraded and is the 240GB SSD replaceable?

The laptop has two memory slots supporting up to 32GB total, so the 8GB can be expanded. The 240GB SSD uses a standard 2.5" SATA interface and can be swapped for a larger drive.

What limits performance first when the Core i7-6500U runs at 3.10 GHz turbo for extended periods?

The dual-core processor shares its thermal budget with the Intel HD Graphics 520, so sustained heavy workloads will hit the chip's power and heat ceiling before the 8GB DDR3 or the SATA SSD become bottlenecks.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get when left running all day?

The 14.0" chassis uses a single fan to cool the 2.50 GHz base-frequency CPU and integrated graphics; under constant load the fan spins up audibly and the keyboard deck becomes noticeably warm, though the SSD stays cool.
