Ready-to-use business laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 arrives with a 14.0 inch FHD display at 1920 x 1080 resolution, an Intel Core i7-6600U processor running at 2.60 GHz with turbo up to 3.40 GHz, 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB 2.5 inch SATA SSD. It is aimed at professionals who need a portable Windows-ready machine without a pre-installed operating system.

Storage and memory limits

The 1TB SATA SSD uses the 2.5 inch form factor and the board provides two memory slots supporting up to 32GB total DDR3 capacity. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 handles the display output, so discrete graphics upgrades are not possible on this platform.

Pre-purchase checks

Verify that you have a licence and installation media for the operating system you intend to run, as none is supplied. Confirm that your docking station or port replicator matches the physical connector on this G3 chassis, and ensure any additional DDR3 modules match the existing speed and voltage specifications.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 16 GB DDR3 version or plan an upgrade to the 32 GB maximum?

The laptop ships with 16 GB DDR3 across two slots and the board supports up to 32 GB, so you can run it as-is or add modules later.

What does the 3.40 GHz turbo frequency actually deliver in daily work?

The dual-core i7-6600U can lift from 2.60 GHz to 3.40 GHz for short bursts, speeding single-thread tasks like browsing or office apps before thermal limits pull it back.

How fast is the 1 TB 2.5" SATA SSD interface in practice?

The drive uses a SATA link, so sequential reads and writes settle at the interface ceiling while random access stays snappy for OS and file loads.
