HP EliteBook 840 G3 14" HD Laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch business laptop with an HD 1366 x 768 display. It runs on an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor with a 2.40 GHz base and 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 16GB DDR3 memory and a new 240GB SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits professionals needing a portable Windows 10 device for office applications, email and web browsing. The 16GB memory supports multitasking with multiple browser tabs and documents. Buyers who need a higher resolution display for detailed design work should look elsewhere. Users requiring dedicated graphics for 3D rendering or gaming should consider other options.

The specification that decides fit

The 1366 x 768 HD resolution on a 14.0-inch panel determines whether text and images appear sharp enough for your daily tasks. If you need more screen detail for spreadsheets or creative work, this resolution may be a limitation. The 240GB SATA SSD provides fast boot and application loading for the operating system and core programs.

Questions about this item

What speed does the 2.5" SATA interface limit the 240GB SSD to?

The 2.5" SATA connection caps the 240GB SSD at the SATA III 6 Gb/s ceiling, so sequential reads and writes cannot exceed that bus limit.

What physical drive bay does the 240GB SSD occupy in the EliteBook 840 G3?

The 240GB SSD fits the standard 2.5" SATA drive bay inside the 14.0" chassis.

Which step is often missed when installing a fresh 2.5" SATA SSD in this laptop?

After fitting the 2.5" SATA SSD into the bay, the SATA data and power cables must be fully seated, then the BIOS must be set to AHCI mode before installing Windows 10 Pro 64-bit.
