Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0" HD laptop built around an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor running at 2.50 GHz with a 3.10 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 240GB SATA SSD. Intel HD Graphics 520 handles the 1366 x 768 display. No operating system is included, so the buyer must supply one.

Suited for office work and legacy software

This unit fits users who need a traditional business chassis with a dual-core 6th generation CPU and SATA storage for standard productivity tasks. It is not for buyers who require a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel, or a discrete graphics processor. The memory ceiling of 32 GB across two slots also limits workloads that demand more RAM.

240GB SATA SSD defines storage speed and capacity

The single 240GB 2.5" SATA drive sets the baseline for boot times, application loading, and total local space. If your workflow needs more capacity or a faster interface, this drive will not meet that need.

Questions about this item

What are the dimensions of the 2.5-inch SATA SSD bay in this EliteBook 840 G3?

The laptop uses a standard 2.5-inch SATA drive bay that accepts a 240 GB SSD, so any 2.5-inch SATA SSD of the same height will fit.

How do I install the operating system on this laptop since none is included?

Create a bootable USB installer for Windows or Linux, boot from the USB, and install the OS to the 240 GB SSD; the missing step many overlook is setting the USB as the first boot device in the BIOS.

Which memory modules can I use to reach the 32 GB maximum on this EliteBook 840 G3?

The system has two DDR3 slots supporting up to 32 GB total, so you can install two compatible DDR3 SO-DIMM modules to reach the limit.
