Business-ready 14-inch laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.4 GHz with 16 GB DDR4 memory and a 256 GB SATA M.2 SSD. It runs Windows 10 Home on a 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display with Intel HD Graphics 520. Connectivity includes USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Type-C, VGA, DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet and a SIM card reader.

Upgrade from slower storage or less memory

Replacing a traditional hard drive with the 256 GB SATA M.2 SSD shortens boot and application load times. The 16 GB DDR4 configuration handles multi-window office workloads that would stall on 8 GB systems. The jump is worth it when daily tasks involve large spreadsheets, multiple browser tabs or simultaneous VPN and video calls.

Check ports, OS path and screen grade

Verify that your peripherals match the available USB 3.0, USB 3.1 Type-C, VGA and DisplayPort outputs. The unit ships with Windows 10 Home and carries a Microsoft Windows 11 Pro upgrade path; confirm your software compatibility before switching. This is a Grade B LCD unit, so expect visible wear such as worn keys, touchpad marks or minor scratches on the screen.

Only the M.2 slot is present; there is no 2.5 inch bay in this 14.0 inch model.

What screw size secures the M.2 SSD and which slot key does it use?

A single M2x3 mm screw holds the SATA M.2 SSD in the B-key slot.

Upgrade when multitasking slows; both SODIMM slots are already occupied by the 16 GB kit.
