Business-ready 14" laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0" HD laptop driven by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.40 GHz with a 3.00 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 8GB of DDR3 memory and a new 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. The 1366 x 768 non-touch display uses Intel HD Graphics 520. No operating system is installed.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy OS

This unit fits users who must install a specific Windows or Linux build themselves and who value a durable silver chassis with integrated webcam and Bluetooth. Buyers who want a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel, discrete graphics or a pre-loaded operating system should look elsewhere.

Straightforward drive and memory access

The M.2 SSD and two DDR3 slots are reachable after removing the base cover, so storage upgrades to the 32 GB memory ceiling are simple. The missing operating system means the first boot requires a bootable USB stick, and driver hunting for the Intel HD Graphics 520 can delay a clean install if the installer media lacks them.

Questions about this item

What operating system must I supply for the EliteBook 840 G3 to boot?

The laptop ships with no operating system, so you must provide and install your own copy of Windows or another OS.

Can I keep my existing DDR3 modules and add them to the two memory slots?

Yes, the system uses DDR3 and has two slots supporting up to 32 GB total, so compatible modules can be added.

How can I verify the 1 TB M.2 NVMe PCIe drive is recognised after installation?

Enter the BIOS or UEFI setup on first boot; the drive should appear in the storage information with its full capacity listed.
