Business laptop with 14-inch display

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U processor running at 2.4 GHz. It comes with 8 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD. The non-touch screen has a 1366 x 768 resolution with LED backlighting and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 using shared system memory. Windows 10 Home is installed.

Ports and expansion for office use

Two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 3.1 Type-C port handle peripherals and data transfer. Video output is provided by a full-size DisplayPort and a VGA port for legacy monitors. A Gigabit RJ-45 jack gives wired network access, while 802.11 wireless covers Wi-Fi needs. A SIM card reader is present for mobile broadband, and the M.2 slot holds the included SSD. No optical drive is fitted.

Suited for core business tasks

This configuration suits professionals who need a lightweight Windows 10 machine for document work, web apps and video calls using the built-in webcam. Buyers who want a touchscreen, higher-resolution panel or discrete graphics should look elsewhere. Users requiring more than 8 GB of memory or a larger SSD will need a different specification.

Questions about this item

Does the i5-6300U throttle under long workloads?

The dual-core 2.4 GHz Skylake processor has 3 MB L3 cache and integrated HD 520 graphics; sustained loads run on shared system memory and the built-in cooling design.

How loud or hot does it get after hours of use?

The 14-inch LED-backlit 1366 x 768 panel and M.2 SATA SSD produce minimal heat; fan noise stays low during typical office tasks and video playback.

Which cables or peripherals must I already have to start working?

The laptop includes its charger and battery; you only need a network cable for the Gigabit RJ-45 port or a DisplayPort/VGA monitor for external display.
