Business-ready 14.0" laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.40 GHz with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. It runs Windows 10 Pro on a 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display with Intel HD Graphics 520. Connectivity includes USB 3.1 Type-C, two USB 3.0 ports, full-size DisplayPort, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 wireless and a webcam.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy ports

This configuration suits professionals who need a compact 14.0-inch chassis with a full set of legacy ports including VGA, DisplayPort and RJ-45 alongside a modern USB 3.1 Type-C connector. The 512 GB NVMe drive and 8 GB DDR4 handle typical office workloads and multi-tab browsing. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a discrete GPU or more than 8 GB of memory should look at other models.

512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD decides fit

The single specification that decides whether this is the right part is the 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. It provides solid-state boot and application speeds within the standard M.2 form factor. If your workflow demands a larger capacity or a second drive bay, this unit does not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 8 GB DDR4 / 512 GB NVMe configuration or look for a different capacity?

This unit ships with 8 GB DDR4 soldered memory and a 512 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD; memory is not user-upgradable, while the M.2 slot accepts a larger NVMe drive if you need more storage later.

What does the 2.4 GHz Core i5-6300U actually deliver in daily work?

The dual-core, four-thread Skylake CPU runs at 2.4 GHz base with 3 MB L3 cache, so office apps, web browsing and light multitasking stay responsive, but sustained heavy loads will hit thermal limits quickly.

What does the USB 3.1 Type-C port support in practice?

The single USB 3.1 Type-C connector provides 10 Gbps data transfer and carries a full-size DisplayPort video signal; it also handles charging through the bundled adapter.
