HP EliteBook 840 G3 14" laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0" business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor with a turbo frequency of 3.40 GHz. It comes with 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 500GB 2.5" SATA SSD running Windows 10 Home 64-bit. It suits professionals needing a portable device for office applications and web-based workflows.

Sustained workload behaviour

The Intel Core i7-6600U and Intel HD Graphics 520 handle typical business tasks such as document editing and video calls. Under continuous heavy load the dual-core design and integrated graphics will throttle performance to manage heat within the thin chassis. Buyers who want more storage or sustained multi-core throughput should consider other options.

Installation and common issues

The laptop arrives with Windows 10 Home pre-installed on the new SSD so it is ready to use after the initial setup. Memory upgrades are possible using the two available slots up to a maximum of 32 GB. The non-touch HD display has a resolution of 1366 x 768 which limits multi-window clarity for some users.

Questions about this item

How much power does the Core i7-6600U draw during long sessions?

The dual-core i7-6600U has a low thermal design power, so the 14.0" EliteBook 840 G3 stays cool and quiet even after hours of continuous use.

Which memory type do I need if I want to reach the 32 GB limit?

The two slots accept DDR3 modules; populate both with compatible sticks to hit the 32 GB maximum.

Can I keep my 2.5" SATA drive when upgrading this machine?

Yes — the 500 GB SSD uses a standard 2.5" SATA bay, so any existing 2.5" SATA drive can be swapped in directly.
