HP EliteBook 840 G3 laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch FHD business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6600U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz with a 3.40 GHz turbo frequency. It comes with 16GB of DDR3 memory and a new 240GB NVMe SSD. Windows 10 Home 64-bit is pre-installed for immediate use by professionals needing a portable Windows machine.

Memory and storage access

The laptop provides two memory slots supporting up to 32 GB total capacity for future RAM upgrades. The 240GB NVMe drive occupies the M.2 slot so storage expansion requires replacing the existing drive. No 2.5 inch drive bay is present. Opening the chassis needs a Torx screwdriver and care with ribbon cables; rushing this step often damages the keyboard connector.

Pre-purchase checklist

Verify that Windows 10 Home meets your software licensing requirements before ordering. Confirm that 16GB DDR3 and 240GB NVMe capacity match your workload, as neither can be expanded without hardware changes. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 suits office tasks but not modern 3D applications. Ensure the 14.0 inch non-touch FHD display size fits your mobility needs.

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-6600U is running at its 3.40 GHz turbo frequency after setup?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab, and watch the CPU clock speed reach 3.40 GHz when a heavy single-thread load is applied.

The laptop ships with the 14.0" FHD display, Intel Core i7-6600U, 16GB DDR3, 240GB NVMe SSD, Windows 10 Home 64-bit, webcam and Bluetooth; no extra parts are required for basic operation.
