Business-ready laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 pairs a 14.0" 1920 x 1080 FHD display with an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.40 GHz. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4 memory and a 128 GB SATA M.2 drive provide responsive multitasking for office workloads. Windows 10 Home is installed and a Microsoft Windows 11 Pro upgrade path is available.

Thermals noise and power in daily use

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 shares system memory and keeps heat output modest during typical productivity tasks. The fan remains quiet under light loads such as document editing or video calls. Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet and 802.11 wireless deliver stable connectivity without adding thermal strain.

Ports and accessories that extend utility

Two USB 3.0 ports plus one USB 3.1 Type-C port support external storage and peripherals. Full-size DisplayPort and VGA outputs drive two additional monitors for expanded desktop space. The box includes the laptop, a charger and a battery; a SIM card reader and 1080p webcam are built in for mobile collaboration.

Questions about this item

How do I install the M.2 SATA SSD in the EliteBook 840 G3, and which step often goes wrong?

Remove the bottom cover, insert the 128 GB drive into the M.2 slot at a 30° angle, then press it flat and secure the single retention screw; the step most people miss is pressing the drive down before tightening the screw, leaving the connector partially seated.

What maintenance or replacement will the EliteBook 840 G3 need over time?

The 16 GB DDR4 memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded; plan to replace the 128 GB SATA M.2 SSD when capacity runs low, and expect the internal battery to require replacement after several hundred charge cycles.

What limit appears first during sustained workloads on the Core i5-6300U?

The Intel HD Graphics 520 shares system memory, so extended 1080p video editing or 3D tasks hit the shared VRAM ceiling before the dual-core 2.4 GHz CPU reaches its thermal ceiling.
