Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14-inch business laptop built around an Intel 6th Gen Core i5-6300U processor. It ships with Windows 10 Pro, 8GB of DDR4 memory and a 128GB solid-state drive. The 1366 x 768 anti-glare display and integrated Intel HD Graphics suit office applications and video calls.

Security and connectivity features

A fingerprint reader and TPM 1.2 module provide hardware-based authentication and encryption for sensitive data. The 720p webcam and Bang & Olufsen stereo speakers support clear conferencing. Wireless-AC 8260 delivers 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, while the backlit spill-resistant keyboard aids work in varied environments.

Storage and memory headroom

The 128GB SSD offers fast boot and application launch for core productivity files, though large media libraries will require external storage. The 8GB DDR4 1866 configuration handles typical multitasking with several browser tabs and office programs, but memory-intensive workloads such as virtual machines or heavy creative suites will exceed available capacity.

Questions about this item

Will the 3-cell 46 Whr Li-ion battery be replaceable when it wears out?

The 3-cell 46 Whr Li-ion battery is user-replaceable; a new pack can be fitted without sending the unit for service.

Does the Intel Core i5-6300U throttle under continuous load because of the 65 W power budget?

The 65 W worldwide AC adapter limits sustained power delivery, so the dual-core 2.40 GHz processor will hit its thermal ceiling before the supply runs out.

How loud does the fan get when the laptop runs all day on the 65 W adapter?

The slim 1.89 cm chassis uses a single fan that becomes audible under prolonged load, but the 46 Whr battery keeps average power draw modest during typical office work.
