Business-ready 14.0" laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0-inch laptop built for office work and mobile professionals. It runs on an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.4 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 memory. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1366 x 768 LED display. A 256 GB NVMe SATA SSD provides the primary storage.

Ports and expansion for a compact chassis

One USB 3.1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, full-size DisplayPort and VGA outputs plus a Gigabit RJ-45 jack cover external displays and wired networks. A SIM card reader supports mobile broadband where service is available. The 720p webcam handles video calls without extra peripherals. Windows 10 Home ships pre-installed with a free upgrade path to Windows 11 Pro.

Steady output for long work sessions

The low-power U-series chip and shared graphics memory keep thermal output modest during extended document, browser and video-conferencing loads. Fan noise remains low in typical office ambient temperatures. Battery life will vary with screen brightness and wireless activity but the 45 Wh cell is sized for a full workday of light productivity. The Grade B LCD may show minor cosmetic wear that does not affect image quality.

Questions about this item

What limits performance first when the Core i5-6300U runs at full load for a long period?

The dual-core 2.4 GHz processor with 3 MB cache will hit its thermal ceiling before the 8 GB DDR4 memory or 256 GB NVMe SSD become bottlenecks.

How loud and hot does the EliteBook 840 G3 get during an all-day workload?

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 shares system memory, keeping heat modest, but the compact 14.0 inch chassis means the fan spins up noticeably under sustained use.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the video outputs and wired network?

You need a VGA cable for the VGA port, a DisplayPort cable for the full-size DisplayPort, and an RJ-45 Ethernet cable for the Gigabit jack.
