Business-ready laptop for office workflows

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch non-touch notebook powered by an Intel Core i5-6300U dual-core processor at 2.4 GHz with 3 MB cache. It ships with Windows 10 Home on a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD and 8 GB of system memory. The 1920 x 1080 LED-backlit display and integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 suit general productivity and video conferencing.

Included charger and battery enable immediate

The package supplies the laptop, its AC adapter and the internal battery so the system can be used straight away. A 720p webcam supports remote meetings, while one USB 3.1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, full-size DisplayPort, VGA and Gigabit RJ-45 provide wired display and network connectivity without extra dongles. Wireless follows the 802.11 b/g/n baseline.

Integrated graphics and 8 GB memory limit heavy

Intel HD Graphics 520 relies on shared system memory, so 3D rendering, modern gaming or GPU-accelerated compute will be constrained. The dual-core U-series CPU and 8 GB DDR4 cap multitasking headroom for large datasets or virtual machines. Buyers who need discrete graphics, higher core counts or user-upgradeable memory should consider other form factors.

Questions about this item

Will the 8GB DDR4 memory need to be upgraded for heavier multitasking later?

The laptop has 8GB of DDR4 soldered to the board with no extra SODIMM slot, so the memory cannot be increased after purchase.

What thermal limit appears first when the Intel Core i5-6300U runs at full load for long periods?

The dual-core 2.4GHz processor shares its cooling with the Intel HD Graphics 520, so sustained turbo speeds drop once the shared heat-pipe reaches its thermal ceiling.

How loud does the fan get and how hot does the chassis feel during an all-day workload?

Under continuous load the single fan spins up to an audible whine and the keyboard deck near the rear vent becomes noticeably warm to the touch.
