Business laptop with 14.0" HD display

The HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0" business laptop running Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor at 2.50 GHz with turbo to 3.10 GHz. It includes 8GB of DDR3 memory and a NEW 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 drives the 1366 x 768 non-touch screen.

Memory and storage capacity

The system ships with 8GB DDR3 across two slots and supports up to 32 GB total, giving headroom for heavier multitasking. The 1TB NVMe drive provides fast boot and application loads with ample space for documents and media. Demanding workloads such as video editing or large datasets will exceed the dual-core CPU and integrated graphics before storage or memory become the bottleneck.

Interface and platform limits

The laptop uses DDR3 memory and an M.2 NVMe PCIe interface for storage, which defines the upgrade path for both subsystems. The 6th generation Intel platform limits memory speed to DDR3 rates and does not support newer memory standards. External connectivity and display options are constrained by the ports and graphics output native to this generation.

Questions about this item

Can the 1TB NVMe drive be used with my existing M.2 dock?

The 1TB SSD is an M.2 NVMe PCIe drive; it will only work in docks or enclosures that explicitly support NVMe over M.2.

How can I verify the i7-6500U is running at its 3.10 GHz turbo?

Open Task Manager, select the Performance tab and watch the CPU frequency climb toward 3.10 GHz during a heavy single-thread load.

Does the box include the 65 W USB-C charger or must I buy it separately?

The laptop ships with its standard barrel-type AC adapter; a USB-C charger is not included and must be purchased separately.
