HP EliteBook 840 G3 laptop

This HP EliteBook 840 G3 is a 14.0 inch laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-6500U dual-core processor with a turbo frequency of 3.10 GHz. It comes with 8GB DDR3 memory and a new 2TB NVMe SSD. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed. The HD display has a 1366 x 768 resolution and is non-touch.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits professionals needing a portable 14 inch business device with a large 2TB NVMe drive and Windows 10 Pro. Buyers who want more than 32 GB of memory or a touchscreen display should look elsewhere. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 520 is not built for demanding 3D workloads.

8GB DDR3 memory with 32 GB maximum

The system ships with 8GB DDR3 across two slots and supports a maximum of 32 GB. This limit decides whether the laptop can handle your multitasking needs. If your workflow requires 64 GB or more, this platform cannot meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

How can I verify the Intel Core i7-6500U is running at its 3.10 GHz turbo frequency after setup?

Open Task Manager in Windows 10 Pro, select the Performance tab, and watch the CPU clock speed rise toward 3.10 GHz when a single-threaded load is applied.

Which components are included and which must be purchased separately for the EliteBook 840 G3?

The laptop ships with the 14.0" HD display, Intel Core i7-6500U, 8GB DDR3, 2TB NVMe SSD, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, webcam and Bluetooth. Only a power adapter or docking station would be extra.

Should I choose the 8GB DDR3 configuration or upgrade toward the 32 GB maximum supported?

The installed 8GB DDR3 suits general office work; add a second module up to the 32 GB ceiling only if you regularly run virtual machines or large datasets.
