Business ultraportable with 14-inch display

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14-inch laptop built for professionals who need a compact Windows 10 Pro machine with fast NVMe storage and ample memory for daily office workloads. Its silver chassis houses a dual-core Intel Core i5-7300U processor running at 2.6 GHz with 3 MB L3 cache, paired with 16 GB DDR4 RAM and a 256 GB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for responsive boot and application loading.

Suited for mobile workers on legacy software

This model suits users who require a traditional business laptop with a full selection of legacy ports — VGA, full-size DisplayPort, Gigabit RJ-45, USB 3.0 Type-A and USB 3.1 Type-C — plus an integrated webcam and SIM card slot for WWAN connectivity. Buyers who need a touchscreen, higher-resolution panel, discrete graphics or a modern Windows 11 license should look elsewhere.

1366 x 768 non-touch panel defines visual use

The 14-inch LED-backlit display delivers a 1366 x 768 resolution without touch input, limiting sharpness for detailed design work or multi-window productivity. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory, so the 16 GB RAM allocation directly affects graphics headroom for external monitors connected via DisplayPort or VGA.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD and what step do people get wrong?

The 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD is already installed from the factory. No installation step is required; the laptop ships with the operating system on that drive.

What maintenance or replacement will the 16GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 16GB DDR4 memory is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded or replaced separately. No routine maintenance is required for the memory itself.

What limit shows up first on the Intel HD Graphics 620 under sustained use?

The Intel HD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory, so extended heavy workloads are limited by the 16GB DDR4 capacity and thermal throttling of the i5-7300U.
