Business ultraportable for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0 inch laptop built for business users who need a lightweight Windows 10 Pro machine with generous memory. It ships with 32GB DDR4 RAM and a 256GB NVMe SSD, so the system stays responsive when multiple office applications are open at once. The Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor runs at 2.6GHz and handles everyday productivity workloads without difficulty.

Suits travelling staff who value portability

This unit fits professionals who move between desks, meetings and client sites and appreciate the full-size VGA and DisplayPort outputs for quick projector hook-ups. The single USB 3.1 Type-C port and two USB 3.0 ports cover most legacy and modern peripherals. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a higher-resolution panel or a dedicated graphics chip should consider other models.

1366 x 768 HD non-touch display defines the visual

The 14-inch LED-backlit screen tops out at 1366 x 768 pixels and does not support touch input, which limits its usefulness for detailed design work or multi-window coding. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 shares system memory and drives external monitors through the available video ports. If a sharper or touch-enabled screen is a requirement, this panel will not satisfy it.

Questions about this item

How loud does the i5-7300U fan get and what is the typical heat output when the laptop runs all day?

The dual-core i5-7300U at 2.6 GHz has a low thermal design power, so the cooling fan stays quiet during typical office workloads and the chassis remains only warm to the touch.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the USB 3.1 Type-C, DisplayPort and VGA outputs?

You need a USB-C cable or adapter for the Type-C port, a standard DisplayPort cable for the full-size DisplayPort, and a VGA cable for the VGA port.

Will the 1366 x 768 panel and Intel HD Graphics 620 drive an older 1080p monitor over DisplayPort without scaling issues?

Yes, the DisplayPort output supports 1080p external displays and the integrated HD Graphics 620 handles the resolution natively.
