Business-ready 14" laptop

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14-inch notebook powered by an Intel Core i5-7300U dual-core processor running at 2.60 GHz. It comes with 8 GB DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed. The non-touch display offers a 1366 x 768 resolution with LED backlighting.

Suited to office work and travel

This unit fits professionals who need a light 14.0" chassis, a full-size DisplayPort, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet and a USB 3.1 Type-C connector for docks or monitors. The integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory, so buyers who want discrete graphics performance for rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. The 1366 x 768 panel also limits multi-window workflows compared with higher-resolution screens.

The 1 TB NVMe boot drive decides fit

A 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides fast start-up and enough room for a typical business application suite and local files. Users who store large media libraries, virtual-machine images or extensive project archives on the internal drive will need external storage or a larger-capacity replacement.

Questions about this item

Does the EliteBook 840 G4 need a separate power adapter to run the Intel Core i5-7300U and charge the 1TB NVMe SSD?

The package includes the laptop, charger and battery so the system powers the processor and solid-state drive without any extra accessory.

Will a VGA monitor still work with the DisplayPort and USB 3.1 Type-C outputs on this 14.0" model?

Yes — the laptop provides a full-size VGA port and a full-size DisplayPort alongside the USB 3.1 Type-C connector for legacy and modern displays.

How can I confirm the Intel HD Graphics 620 is driving the 1366 x 768 panel at the correct resolution after Windows 10 Pro boots?

Open Display Settings in Windows 10 Pro; the recommended resolution should read 1366 x 768 and the adapter will show Intel HD Graphics 620.
