Business laptop for mobile professionals

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14 inch workstation built for business users who need a portable Windows 10 Pro machine. It runs on a 7th Gen Intel Core i7-7500U dual-core processor with a base speed of 2.70GHz and a turbo boost up to 3.50GHz. The system includes 16GB of DDR4 memory and a 512GB solid state drive for fast storage access.

Sustained workload behaviour

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 handles everyday office applications and video playback without a discrete graphics card. Under continuous load the dual-core CPU can maintain elevated clocks up to 3.50GHz thanks to Turbo Boost, while the 16GB DDR4-2133MHz memory keeps multitasking responsive. The anti-glare 1366 x 768 display remains readable during long sessions.

Chassis connectivity and daily use

The ultrathin chassis provides a practical port selection including two USB 3.1 ports, one USB-C port, VGA, DisplayPort 1.2 and an RJ-45 Ethernet jack. Wireless connectivity comes from the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 adapter with Bluetooth support. A 720p HD webcam and a combined headphone/microphone jack cover conferencing needs for remote work or education.

Questions about this item

How much heat and fan noise should I expect from the Core i7-7500U and Intel HD Graphics 620 during an all-day workload?

The 2.7GHz dual-core processor with 3.50GHz Turbo Boost and integrated 620 graphics is designed for thin-and-light thermals; under sustained office loads the fan stays audible but not intrusive, and surface temperatures remain comfortable for lap use.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the VGA, DisplayPort 1.2 and USB-C video outputs on this EliteBook 840 G4?

You need a VGA cable for legacy projectors, a DisplayPort 1.2 cable or DP-to-HDMI adapter for modern monitors, and a USB-C-to-DisplayPort or USB-C-to-HDMI adapter if you want to drive a screen through the USB-C port.

Will my existing DDR4-2133 SO-DIMM sticks work alongside the 16GB already installed if I want to expand memory later?

The laptop ships with 16GB of DDR4-2133 soldered on board and has no free SO-DIMM slot, so the memory cannot be expanded with your existing sticks.
