14-inch business laptop with Core i5-7300U

The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by a dual-core Intel Core i5-7300U processor running at 2.6 GHz. It comes with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 512 GB M.2 SATA SSD. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed on the 64-bit system. The HD LED-backlit panel offers a 1366 x 768 resolution without touch input.

Suits office workers needing legacy ports

This configuration suits professionals who rely on a full-size VGA port, a full-size DisplayPort and a Gigabit RJ-45 Ethernet jack for docked or meeting-room setups. The single USB 3.1 Type-C port and two USB 3.0 ports cover modern and older peripherals. Buyers who require a touchscreen, discrete graphics, a higher-resolution panel or faster storage interface should consider other models.

Integrated Intel HD Graphics 620

The only graphics option is the integrated Intel HD Graphics 620, which uses shared system memory. It drives the internal 1366 x 768 display and can feed an external monitor through the DisplayPort or VGA outputs. This makes the laptop adequate for productivity, video playback and light multitasking, but unsuitable for CAD, rendering or gaming workloads.

Questions about this item

Does the i5-7300U run hot or loud during a full workday?

The dual-core processor has a low thermal design, so the fan stays quiet during typical office tasks and only spins up under sustained heavy load.

What cables or peripherals do I need to start using the USB Type-C port?

The port follows the USB 3.1 standard, so any compatible Type-C cable, hub or monitor will work immediately without extra drivers.

Can I keep my older VGA monitor and wired network while using the DisplayPort for a second screen?

Yes, the laptop provides a full-size VGA connector, a full-size DisplayPort and a Gigabit RJ-45 jack all at the same time.
